A work in progress
Hey, I'm Jake. A 90s kid that grew up in a quiet town just outside the vibrant, noisy, art-filled city of Bristol. I now live in Leicester, working as an Assistant Creative Director, painting in my free time between doing grown-up things.
Since I was a kid, I’ve always been tuned into what’s going on around me. That sensitivity helps me notice things, people, moments and details.
In 2023 I had a real desire to change my artistic focus from a highly detailed, black and white, bold and contrasting illustrative style that I'd spent over a decade developing, to something more free and expressive.
I try to bring that same awareness into my painting, to create moments, people and things that I personally connect with and believe are worth savouring.

Finding the mark
This chapter is an exciting time in my artistic journey. I mainly paint in oils, though the idea and narrative that drives my creative choices tend to dictate what medium to use.
I'm most interested in trying to capture the mood or feeling of the subject I'm panting. I enjoy finding the quiet moments between the big moments, the things that are forgotten or go unnoticed. Those are the things that make me stop, smile, or think about what it is to be alive.
